Wendell Berry lives at the true north of my community, although Port Royal would be found at a different direction of the compass from here. I have reconnected to my own place here in New Orleans since I began to read his essays and found in them inspiring, logical ways to extol place and sufficiency over globalization and greed. Wendell, Gary Snyder, Peter Berg, Annie Dillard, Rebecca Solnit, among others have advocated so clearly about place in my lifetime that we can simply follow their lamp to get there too.
This piece on affection and “Stickers” is another classic.
